Description
The smooth textures and soft blue-grey tones of these beach stones convey a calm, zen-like quality, so much so that you can almost hear the motion of the waves pushing them against the sandy shoreline. This is a little closer version of beach pebbles I posted previously on FAA, titled "Stone Soup II".

The majority of these rocks are basalt and limestone. Basalt is (grey to black) fine grained underlying more of Earth's surface than any other rock type. Most areas within Earth's ocean basins are underlain by basalt. The basalt stones with flecks in them have been induced with feldspar minerals within the lava flow.
Limestone is a sedimentary rock composed of calcium carbonate fossils and algae held together by dissolved minerals. It forms at the bottom of oceans and lakes. Limestones are bluish gray to tan. The brown and yellow shades are usually caused by iron oxide impurities and the dark-gray to black colors are caused by organic material.
