Description
The iconic St. Joe, Michigan lighthouse viewed from Tiscornia Beach on Lake Michigan during a crisp sunny day with a background of creamy white clouds against blue skies while gentle waves roll into shore.
The current pier lights were constructed in 1907. The outer light is a 30-foot cast iron tower, painted white, with a black lantern and gallery. The inner light is a 53-foot tower constructed on a square cast iron fog signal building. The red roof and white structures topped with black lanterns present a picturesque contrast to the blue of Lake Michigan.
Ownership of the St. Joseph pier lighthouses was transferred from the Coast Guard to the city of St. Joseph in 2013.
After an extensive restoration completed in 2016, the lighthouses now appear as they did in 1932.
