Description
Late spring early summer the beach grass at Oval Beach on Lake Michigan is not quite fully mature, yet dazzles with its bright green color. In this view the sky looks as if its purposely blown to help push the sailboat far off in the distance.
This plot of land is actually sitting where the Kalamazoo River mouth once flowed and emptied into Lake Michigan. In 1901 the river basin was filled in when a new river mouth was dredged further north of here in order to facilitate cruise ships coming from Chicago and Milwaukee. In 2012 this 173 acre of grassy dune land bordering Oval Beach was rescued from development forever and deemed the Saugatuck Harbor Natural Area.
I work summers here and have written a photo essay about it from its early beginnings to present day . . .

I have never been to Michigan, so I never would have guessed that this is a lake shore, but it is peaceful and lovely and definitely a place I would love to visit one day.

I enjoy this, great movement with the clouds contrasting with the stillness of the greens! v
