Artist's Description

Milkweed are commonly found along the beach fauna of Lake Michigan (USA) sand dunes. They are planted in other areas of the country to assist the threatened migration of the monarch butterfly. Read my photo/essay about the amazing milkweed and how it helps the monarch. Click on the hubpages.com link in my profile and scroll tell you find it, titled, The Many Haircuts of Milkweed.

Amazing milkweed

many a day I overlooked its full beauty

such as the golden riches of its inner pod,

the pink and purple petals of its umbel,

or the intricate scarlet veins of its leaves,

yet, when a child, time and again, I had set free its feathery seeds

and watched them fly away in the wind

where my dreams were answered with a puff
