Description
This Lake Michigan dunescape called, the Saugatuck Natural Harbor Area, otherwise, The Bowl, borders Oval Beach in Southwest Michigan preserved for the ages. They call this ecosystem "interdunal wetlands" created by towering sand dunes on almost all four sides trapping rain water and providing a habitat for threatened plant and animal species, including; Blanchard's Cricket Frog and the Prairie Warbler, also, Bald Eagles, Ospreys, Northern Harriers, and Black Terns. It's value to the community of the tourist towns, Saugauck and Douglas Michigan, can't be stressed enough.
During the autumn season, the sand reed grass glorifies the scene with its deep red hues.
