Description
The Jingle Shells, thin, bright and pearly are common on both coasts of North America, but on the east coast they can be found as far north as Nova Scotia Canada and as far south as Brazil. Thriving in warm shallow water, the animal anchors itself to rock, seaweed or old shells by a fleshy appendage passing through a hole in the lower valve, consequently only the upper shell is usually found washed ashore. They have been used in jewelry making, wind chimes, or chandeliers and create the most pleasing tingling sound with the slightest brush of the wind.
