Description
The few prints found in the sand on a winter's day at Oval Beach in Saugatuck, Michigan (USA) are likely left by the sandpipers as the gulls and terns have webbed feet! Long shadows decorate the wind-smoothed sand created by the season's lower angle of the sun. The only sounds heard above the rolling waves are breezes brushing through the golden beach grass or the distant birds. A handful of people linger for short periods hoping to empty themselves from the stresses of daily life and get in touch with what's really important!

Terrific, Kathi. Love the interplay of light and shadows, and how the footprints guide the viewer through the picture. I’m curious about the footprints. Gulls and terns have webbed feet/toes, so the footprints in your picture do not appear to be of a gull or a tern. Sandpiper’s feet are not so webbed, with pointy toes, so they could leave footprints that you have if they tippy-toed on the sand (see the second image at http://www.birdingisfun.com/2013/11/sanderling-true-sandpiper.html). So, the footprints could be from a sandpiper.
