Description
This beach grass scene off Lake Michigan looks towards Oval Beach. The grass matures in late summer with long wispy blades blown over by the wind.
This 173 acre plot of sand and grassy dunes is actually sitting where the Kalamazoo River once flowed and emptied into Lake Michigan in my home town of Saugatuck, Michigan. In 1901 the river basin was filled in when a new river mouth was dredged further north of here in order to facilitate cruise ships coming from Chicago and Milwaukee. In 2012 the pristine landscape was rescued from development forever and deemed the Saugatuck Harbor Natural Area bordering the popular tourist spot of Oval Beach!
